Prof Lise-Lotte Kirkevang graduated in 1995 from Aarhus University. She defended and received her PhD degree in 2001, and her Dr. Odont degree in 2018. From 2007-2023 she worked as associate professor at Aarhus University. During 2012-18 she was appointed professor in Endodontics at Oslo University, first full-time and later, on a part-time basis. Recently she was appointed Professor and Head of Endodontics at Aarhus University. Prof Kirkevang also works part-time in endodontic private practice.
Prof Kirkevang has been responsible for endodontic education and research and was active in the development of an updated curriculum for endodontic training for pre-graduate dental students. She is a member of the Executive Board in European Society of Endodontology, is co-editor for the third edition of Textbook of Endodontology and has contributed to several other textbooks on Endodontology. She been scientific co-editor for the Danish dental journal since 2012.
Prof Kirkevang’s academic activities focus on studies concerning the diagnosis of apical periodontitis, prevalence and fate of endodontically treated teeth in general populations, and factors with impact on development and healing of the disease. Most recently she has been involved in the development of the new S3 clinical guideline, and together with Ove Peters, lead the working group focusing on diagnosis and treatment of Apical Periodontitis and has received several grants and prizes for research and endodontic education. Prof Lars Bjørndal graduated in 1988 as a dentist from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. In 1992 he completed his Ph.D. thesis on the topic: Caries progression in enamel and the pulp-dentin organ using thin undemineralized tooth sections. In 2011 he completed his Dr. Odont. Thesis entitled: Endodontic treatment: reason, prevention and quality – shaping factors.
From 1993-1998 he was Assistant Professor at the Department of Cariology and Endodontics, University of Copenhagen. 1999-2001: Received specific postgraduate endodontic specialist course in collaboration with the universities in Copenhagen, Denmark, Malmö and Gothenburg, Sweden. Certified member of European Society of Endodontology. From 1998: Associate professor at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Head of Endodontic since 2016. In 2012 he was visiting Scholar at Loma Linda University, US. From 2012-2015: Head of the Special Clinical Unit receiving referrals at University of Copenhagen, Denmark. One day weekly he is in in private practice devoted endodontic referrals. He has been Secretary in the Scandinavian Endodontic Society (SES) from 1999-2001. Twice hosted the SES biennial congress in Denmark. Past President of the Danish National Endodontic Society and past country representative for the European Society of Endodontology (ESE). He has been giving lectures worldwide in Europe, Asia, North and South America, covering the field of deep caries lesion pathology, treatments and quality-shaping factors concerning endodontic treatments. Prof Bjorndal has authored and co-authored numerous international and national articles, including book chapters and reviews. Editor of Textbook of Endodontology, WiIey ,Blackwell 3. edition.
